My journey into the world of candle making began with pregnancy - all those moments of stress and anxiety left me searching for relief, and so I discovered aromatherapy. I walked into the local mall, intent on buying candles, and to shop, and shop I did; at Bed, Bath & Beyond, Target, Bath & Body Works, and many other big stores. I loaded myself with as many fragrant candles as I could carry and headed home ready to burn - But when I burned candle after candle, to my pain and disappointment, I experienced frequent headaches, stuffy noses and red puffy eyes. I could hardly breathe, let alone relax! So I researched the ingredients only to find my red eyes swelling further at the words on my screen - “crude-oil”, “carcinogens,” “toxins!”
Cheap candles are cheap, for a reason. I could not put my baby through this. I began researching healthier alternatives, taking it upon myself to create what I felt the market had missed. Candles, designed and crafted carefully by women, with pregnant women, babies and pets in mind. I founded Valkyrie James Candle Co after the birth of my daughter and our mission is just beginning.
Our Commitment
As a mother, the health and safety of my family are my number one priority. I care about how products are made and with what ingredients. At Valkyrie James, each candle is carefully hand-poured using 100% safe, natural ingredients to ensure a long-lasting clean burn without the release of harmful, carcinogenic pollutants. Our non-toxic commitment to you means you can burn our candles with peace of mind, free from petroleum byproducts, parabens, and phthalates. We primarily use our own vegetable-based wax blend derived from soybeans (known as soy wax) crafted to minimize allergies, asthma, respiratory irritation, and the headaches often triggered by mass produced paraffin-based candles. Our Mission to Sustainability
Beyond our dedication to crafting safe and clean candles, we are also deeply committed to sustainability. From our eco-friendly packaging to sourcing from local suppliers, we strive to minimize our environmental impact and contribute to a healthier planet for future generations to come. (Save the otters!) We take pride in being a zero waste company, meaning we believe in the importance of redesigning and managing products, or processes, to avoid the volume and toxicity of waste in landfills. We also ensure all products are repurposed and reused. To this end, we formed our “Land of the Misfits” candles collection. These misfits were born from the leftover wax of test batches which didn’t quite meet our standards, but were unique enough to deserve a second chance. We love our misfits and believe you will too! We aim to create more than just candles. Our goal is to evoke moments of tranquility and peace for our customers. All made with clean ingredients that are gentl on you and mother Earth.
